Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has broken his silence regarding his absence at the funeral of his late colleague, Junior Pope.
Edochie, who has recently declared himself a pastor, took to social media on Tuesday to explain his decision, attributing it to multiple instances of betrayal by the late film producer.
In his post, Edochie expressed that despite considering Pope as a brother and close friend, he felt deeply hurt by Pope’s repeated backstabbing.
“I didn’t want to say anything till after his burial. I know many asked why I wasn’t there, why I haven’t said anything about it since,” Edochie wrote.
“I took him like a brother and good friend. I was there for him when he needed me. But he stabbed me in the back, repeatedly. That’s life!”
Edochie promised to reveal more details about the betrayals soon, hoping that his followers could learn from his experience. He also cautioned people to be mindful of their wishes for others, warning that such wishes could backfire.
Despite his explanation, Edochie’s post has sparked widespread condemnation. Many Nigerians expressed their dissatisfaction, questioning his timing and the appropriateness of airing such grievances publicly, especially given his self-proclaimed pastoral role.
The 43-year-old actor tragically passed away alongside four others on April 10, when their boat capsized in the Anam River while returning from a movie shoot. Junior Pope’s funeral service was held on Friday in his hometown in Enugu.
