PDP Chairman, Others Plotting To Impeach Fubara – G-60 Reps

A faction of lawmakers from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, known as the G-60, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to impeach Governor Siminilayi Fubara of Rivers State.

The group made their concerns public during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, pointing fingers at the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagun, accusing him of collaborating with the All Progressive Congress (APC) to undermine the party.

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the spokesperson for the G-60 and representative of Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State, led the charge against Damagun.

He called on the National Executive Committee of the PDP, the Board of Trustees, and other stakeholders to reassess the party’s leadership, labelling Damagun as a significant threat to the party’s stability and future.

“The PDP governors, it is Fubara he wants to remove today; keep quiet about it, and it will definitely be your turn tomorrow,” Ugochinyere warned.

He urged fellow PDP members to stand against what he described as an attempt to dismantle the party and pave the way for APC dominance in the upcoming 2027 elections.

The G-60 accused Damagun of breaking party agreements made at the last National Executive Council meeting by securing a court injunction to remain in office beyond August, the agreed-upon end date for his tenure.

Ugochinyere alleged that Damagun, in conjunction with some APC leaders, was attempting to destabilize the PDP from within.

The group also highlighted a lawsuit filed by the PDP under Damagun’s leadership, which opposes the declaration of vacant seats for 27 Rivers

State lawmakers who defected to the APC. Ugochinyere claimed this action contradicts an earlier suit by the PDP seeking to have those seats declared vacant.

“The PDP is now approbating and reprobating at the same time,” he said, questioning the motivations behind the party’s shifting legal stance.

Moreover, Ugochinyere accused Damagun of orchestrating a legal strategy to reinstate sacked APC lawmakers and use them to attempt the impeachment of Governor Fubara.

He pointed out a series of suspicious court actions, including orders that favoured Damagun and facilitated the infiltration of APC members into PDP structures.

The spokesperson called for immediate intervention by security agencies and judicial authorities to investigate these alleged irregularities and safeguard the integrity of the PDP and the judicial process.

He urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the National Judicial Council to take swift action to address the concerns raised by the G-60.

As tensions rise within the PDP, the party’s internal conflict over leadership and strategy unfolds, with significant implications for its future direction and electoral prospects.
