Protests Erupt in Kano As Calls For Bayero’s Reinstatement Grow Louder


Holding placards high and chanting anti-government slogans, they moved with a determined rhythm, their path illuminated by the flickering flames of bonfires they had kindled along the way.

The protesters called for the removal of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. Videos of their passionate demonstration quickly spread across social media.

Despite the palpable tension, the atmosphere remained peaceful, a testament to the disciplined resolve of the protesters.

The protsters marched through State Road, a major thoroughfare in the city, where they continued their vigil, chanting.

Daily Trust reports that the protesters also held a special prayer session, seeking divine intervention in their cause.

Security forces, including policemen and other agents, were present but did not intervene. They stood by, watching as the procession moved closer to the palace.

Bayero, who had returned to Kano in the early hours of Saturday, had defied the state governor, Abba Yusuf, by refusing to vacate the palace in Nassarawa LG. The governor had responded swiftly, ordering Bayero’s arrest, but this only seemed to strengthen the resolve of his supporters.
