Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, inaugurated 15 high-capacity, locally fabricated boats to boost water transportation in the state.

The new ferries, developed in collaboration with Caverton Marine, are designed to carry 40 passengers each, effectively doubling the capacity of the existing vessels.

He said, “The deployment of these ferries underscores our dedication to reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity between communities.

“By saving hours lost in traffic, we are boosting economic prosperity and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”

Sanwo-Olu said a second phase of the project, which will include the fabrication of an additional 25 high-capacity ferries, would commence in the coming months.

He said, “Our commitment to enhancing the Lagos transportation system is unwavering.

“With new patrol boats, a Search and Rescue Unit, and a floating clinic, we are ensuring that our waterways are safe and efficient.

“Together, we are building a Lagos that thrives on innovation and sustainability.”

The new ferries will operate using the Cowry Card payment system, ensuring a seamless and efficient service for all users.
