Military Dismisses ISWAP Threats As Propaganda

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has reaffirmed its commitment to Operation Lake Sanity 2, despite what it described as “recent propaganda efforts” by ISWAP terrorists to frighten Nigerians in some parts of Northern Nigeria.

The military’s assurance came on the heels of a recent threat issued by terrorists to communities in the Lake Chad basin area.

A leader of the military contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, who issued a statement on Friday deplored how some media organisations reported the threat.

“Unfortunately, some media outlets have inadvertently amplified this message, overlooking its implications,” the officer said.

The military describedd the terrorists’ actions as “a blatant act of intimidation” and “a desperate move by a group on the verge of defeat.”

He added that as the MNJTF and Nigerian Operation HADIN KAI troops intensified their operations, they anticipated an increase in such propaganda efforts.

“It is crucial for communities to remain steadfast, vigilant, and confident in their safety,” he said.

The statement emphasized that the multinational forces were dedicated to protecting the Lake Chad Basin communities.

He said, ‘The ongoing operations aimed to swiftly and decisively neutralize any threats posed by Boko Haram terrorists.”

The MNJTF highlighted the terrorists’ diminishing power, pointing to their reliance on scare tactics like improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as a sign of their frustration.

“Their capability to conduct ground operations has been significantly impaired,” the statement read. By issuing threats, the terrorists aim to spread fear and disrupt the lives of residents in the Lake Chad Basin,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi urged residents of Kukawa and surrounding areas to remain united and vigilant, advising them to report any suspicious activities to the troops immediately.

“Collective vigilance and cooperation are essential during Operation Lake Sanity 2 and beyond,” he stated. “Our unity is our strength, and together, we can ensure the security of the Lake Chad basin region.”
