Chelsea, on Friday, announced the signing of British-Nigerian centre-back, Tosin Adarabioyo.

The 26-year-old defender has signed a four-year contract with the Blues, set to begin on July 1.

Adarabioyo joins Chelsea from their west London neighbours, Fulham.

In his first interview as a Chelsea player, Tosin spoke with much enthusiam about joining the club.

“Chelsea is a huge club and this is a full-circle moment for me. I was born three miles away from Stamford Bridge and made my professional debut there.

“I’m very excited and looking forward to helping push the club in the direction we want to go.”

Adarabioyo’s signing marks the first acquisition under the leadership of Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca.

Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart praised Tosin’s abilities and experience.

“We are delighted to bring Tosin to Chelsea.

“Throughout his career, he has showcased his maturity and defensive qualities and has gained a wealth of experience in the Premier League in recent seasons.

“He is ready to make the step up to Chelsea and work alongside the talented players in our squad.

“We look forward to Tosin joining up with us for pre-season,” they said.

Born in London but raised in Manchester, Tosin began his career with Manchester City at the age of five.

He progressed through City’s youth ranks, even captaining the Under-18s at just 16 years old.

He made his professional debut at Stamford Bridge in February 2016 during an FA Cup match and played eight more first-team games for City over the next two seasons.

To gain more first-team experience, Tosin spent time on loan in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers before permanently joining Fulham in October 2020.

His first season at Fulham saw him make 33 appearances in the Premier League, earning praise for his solid performances.

He continued to be a key player for Fulham, making 44 appearances in the following season and playing a crucial role in their promotion from the Championship.

Over the past two seasons, Tosin made 45 top-flight appearances, helping Fulham secure tenth and thirteenth place finishes in the Premier League.

Adarabioyo’s arrival at Chelsea fills the gap left by Thiago Silva’s departure to Fluminense. Chelsea values Tosin’s composure on the ball and aerial prowess, viewing him as a key addition to their defense.

Despite interest from other clubs, including Newcastle United, Chelsea succeeded in securing Tosin’s signature on a long-term deal.

Chelsea fans can look forward to seeing their new defender in action when the 2024/25 season kicks off, with Adarabioyo set to bring his Premier League experience and defensive skills to Stamford Bridge.
