Kidnappers Demand $1.5m After Abducting Multinational’s MD, Three Others In Lagos

Armed assailants have abducted the Managing Director of Fouani Nigeria Limited, Mohamed Fouani, a prominent electronics distribution company, along with three Lebanese nationals while they were traveling by boat in Lagos.

The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, June 14, 2024, near Falomo Bridge, as the victims were en route from Apapa to Victoria Island.

Punch Online, which first reported the story, quoted an anonymous source who confirmed that the kidnappers intercepted the boat during a short ride.

“Yesterday (Friday) evening, the Managing Director of Fouani company (LG and Hisense) and three Lebanese were kidnapped around Falomo Bridge while traveling from Apapa to Victoria Island by boat,” the source disclosed. “The kidnappers have asked for $1.5 million.”

Confirming the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged that the police received a report and are actively investigating the matter.

“Yes, it is true. We got the report and we are looking into it. Please, I’m not obliged to state more than that,” Hundeyin stated.

Hundeyin emphasized that details regarding the names and circumstances surrounding the abduction are being handled with sensitivity due to the ongoing investigation.

The news of the abduction is certain to worry Lagosians and visitors to the state.

Ikoyi, the venue of the incident, is one of Lagos’ safest neighbourhoods and it is peopled by well-heeled Nigerians, foreign businessmen and members of the diplomaatic corps.
