Former President Muhammadu Buhari has called for heightened efforts in agricultural production to ensure food security and stabilize prices across the nation.
The former president’s remarks which were contained in a statement issued by his media adviser, Garba Shehu, were to mark the Sallah festival.
Speaking after observing Eid prayers alongside Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, Buhari commended Nigerians for embracing farming to mitigate rising food costs.
“I am pleased to see more Nigerians returning to agriculture to bolster food production and alleviate economic pressures,” Buhari remarked. “Let us continue this momentum and support locally grown products to sustain our nation.”
Expressing concerns over unchecked population growth, Buhari emphasised the need for national dialogue and awareness campaigns to address its potential repercussions for future generations.
“The swelling population poses significant challenges that demand urgent attention, including increased investment in education and healthcare,” he cautioned.
Buhari extended warm wishes for Eid, urging Nigerians to foster unity and compassion. “Let us support each other and uphold the values that bind us as a nation,” he concluded.
Addressing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who traditionally visit him during Eid celebrations, Buhari underscored the scheme’s pivotal role in national unity.
He lauded the NYSC as a cornerstone of nation-building and urged successive governments to strengthen its impact.
As part of his annual tradition, Buhari donated a cow, 10 bags of rice, and financial support to the NYSC members, symbolising solidarity and support during the festive season.
