Nigerian music icon Adewale Ayuba, known for his energetic Fuji tunes, has shared his journey of converting from Islam to Christianity.

Speaking openly about his faith transition, Ayuba explained that his decision was deeply rooted in personal spiritual understanding.

Ayuba, reflecting on his conversion, stated, “I converted to Christianity because I found inspiration in Bible verses, ‘Seek Him first’ and ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’.”

He emphasized that religion is a personal choice and a relationship between individuals and God, stressing that Muslims and Christians worship the same God.

Addressing misconceptions about his religious affiliation, Ayuba challenged critics who labelled him as Muslim despite his embrace of Christianity.

He further explained, “People claim I am a Muslim, but have they seen me in the mosque? If I were practicing Islam, wouldn’t someone have noticed?

“My upbringing included Islamic practices at home due to my mother’s faith as an Alhaja.

“However, my journey led me to Christianity because I resonate with its teachings and desire to be closer to God.”

Ayuba expressed disappointment with how religion is sometimes misconstrued in Nigeria.

“In Nigeria, Christianity encompasses various denominations like Cherubim and Seraphim. There are many facets to God,” he remarked.

The music star, known for hits like ‘Bubble’ and ‘Ijo Fuji’, clarified that his decision to follow Christianity was not a rejection of his Muslim background but a personal preference.

“I chose Jesus Christ because he proclaimed, ‘I am the truth, the way, and the life.’ This is my personal choice, and it brings me happiness,” Ayuba affirmed.

He concluded by highlighting the unity within his band, where members of different faiths, including Muslims, pray together.

“I respect their prayers in Arabic; I believe in mutual respect and understanding,” Ayuba added.
