Super Eagles Tumble to 38th in Latest FIFA Rankings

Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has experienced a significant decline in the latest FIFA World Rankings, dropping eight places to 38th position.

The monthly rankings, released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Thursday, reflect the team’s recent performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“The Super Eagles have not been consistent in their recent matches, and this has impacted our standing in the global rankings.”

The West African giants had a lackluster performance in the qualifiers, managing a 1-1 draw against South Africa at home and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic away.

These results contributed to their slip from the 30th to the 38th position in the rankings.

Despite the setback, the Super Eagles remain among the top five teams in Africa, showcasing the competitive nature of football on the continent. Morocco leads the African rankings, followed by Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire in the top positions.

The NFF is expected to review the team’s strategy and prepare for future matches to regain momentum in both continental and global competitions.
