In a series of tweets posted on Friday, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, addressed the ongoing legal dispute over custody of his daughter with Sophia Momodu.
Davido accused Momodu, the mother of his daughter, Imade, of using the death of his late child to manipulate public opinion against him.
He wrote, ““Your constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point u can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us everyday of our lives .. Imade will grow up to see I fought for her .. as for now u can have her .. P.S she won’t be a child forever .. enjoy.”
Davido clarified that his initial request was for joint custody, lamenting what he perceives as misinterpretations due to his celebrity status.
“All I asked for was ‘joint custody’ but cus it’s Davido yall wanna act like yall can’t read! SMH I’m off this … yall be blessed and I pray this never happens to you,” he wrote.
Momodu had filed a comprehensive response through her legal representatives, led by Anthony Idigbe, SAN, and Dr. Bimpe Ajegbomogun of Punuka Attorneys.
In her defence submitted to the Lagos State High Court in Sabo, Yaba, Sophia refuted Davido’s claims of her alleged manipulative behaviour.
She argued against granting Davido custody, citing his purported lack of consistent involvement and emotional support for Imade throughout their relationship.
Sophia’s affidavit includes detailed assertions that Davido conditioned his involvement in Imade’s life on her compliance with his personal desires, alleging a pattern of neglect and emotional manipulation.
She maintained that she had been the primary caregiver for Imade in recent years, asserting that Davido’s public persona as a doting father did not align with his actions in private.
The legal battle, initiated by Davido with a suit for joint custody and unrestricted access to Imade, has escalated into a contentious dispute over parental responsibilities and past actions.
Despite Davido’s claims of financial support, Sophia’s legal team countered with claims of emotional absenteeism and neglect, challenging Davido’s assertions of consistent paternal involvement.
