English Premier League giants Chelsea FC have appointed former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana to a newly created role focused on African football talent.

Olofinjana, who earned 56 caps for the Nigerian national team during his playing career, brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of African football to his new position.

His responsibilities will include scouting promising players, making recruitment recommendations, and working closely with Chelsea’s newly appointed scout dedicated to African football.

This collaborative effort aims to strengthen Chelsea’s connections in Africa and enhance their ability to identify and develop top-tier talent for both Chelsea FC and Strasbourg, the club’s sister team in France.

Olofinjana’s journey to Chelsea’s talent management team is rooted in a diverse football career that began in Nigeria, where he played for clubs like Crown FC and Kwara United.

His move to SK Brann in Norway in 2003 marked the beginning of his European adventure, which later saw him join Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League in 2004.

Beyond his professional playing career, Olofinjana has also made significant strides in football management and development.

He currently serves as the executive director of Imperial FC, a prominent Nigerian club with a thriving academy known for nurturing young talents.

Notably, Imperial FC’s academy played a crucial role in the development of players like Taiwo Awoniyi, who later transferred to Liverpool FC and now plays for Nottingham Forest.
