Kidnapping: VC Says University Staff Acting As Informants To Bandits

Allegations of staff members serving as informants to bandits have rocked the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, speaking to journalists in Katsina on Tuesday, grave concerns over the security situation plaguing the university community.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the management said the VC’s remarks were part of efforts made to prevent further attacks in the university community.

Recent attacks by suspected bandits have targeted the university, resulting in the kidnapping of students, staff, and their family members.

The tragic death of a university staff member in a recent attack prompted colleagues to stage a peaceful protest against the escalating insecurity.

He further revealed that the suspected informants’ contact details had been handed over to security agencies for thorough investigation, though no feedback had been received yet.

The VC said, “This issue of informants is worrisome. Therefore, we investigated those we suspected of giving out their colleagues and students’ information.

“We have found them and handed over their contacts to one of the security agencies for further investigation. But we have not heard anything from the securities.

“These suspects are our staff. We have strong reasons for accusing them of being informants to bandits,”

He expressed disappointment over the lack of response from the security agencies involved.

In response to these revelations, the Police Command in Katsina State expressed surprise, with the spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, stating they were not previously aware of such allegations.

He assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated to ascertain its validity.

ASP Sadiq-Aliyu urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to law enforcement agencies to aid in combating the prevailing security challenges in the state.
