In a thrilling Euro 2024 semifinal clash in Munich on Tuesday, Spain secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over France, booking their spot in the tournament’s final against either England or the Netherlands.

The match saw Spain rally back from an early deficit, thanks to a stunning performance highlighted by Lamine Yamal’s historic goal.

France drew first blood early in the match as Randal Kolo Muani headed in a cross from Kylian Mbappe to put Les Bleus ahead 1-0 in the 8th minute.

However, Spain responded swiftly with two quick goals in the first half to turn the tide in their favour.

The equalizer came in the 21st minute courtesy of Spain’s 16-year-old sensation, Lamine Yamal, who curled in a spectacular long-range effort past French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Just four minutes later, Dani Olmo doubled Spain’s lead with a powerful strike, initially deflected off Jules Kounde before finding the back of the net.

“I’m very happy to have made it to the final,” Yamal expressed to reporters post-match. “Now the most important thing is to win it. We were in a difficult moment, you wouldn’t expect a goal so soon. I wanted to put it in where it went in.”

The victory marks Spain’s sixth consecutive win in Euro 2024 as they pursue their fourth European championship title, having previously triumphed in 1964, 2008, and 2012.

France’s manager Didier Deschamps acknowledged Spain’s superiority on the night, stating, “Spain proved tonight that they are a very good team. We were fortunate to open the scoring, but they caused us problems because they were superior in terms of control.”

The match saw intense moments in the closing stages, including a yellow card shown to Lamine Yamal in stoppage time for a challenge on Theo Hernandez, amidst France’s late push for an equalizer.

Spain managed to hold onto their lead, securing their place in Sunday’s final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Despite France’s efforts to mount a comeback in the second half, Spain’s resolute defence held firm, denying their opponents any clear chances.

Spain’s victory underscores their resilience and tactical prowess, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to Euro 2024 as they await the winner of the England-Netherlands semifinal showdown.

The Euro 2024 final promises to be a clash of titans as Spain aims to cement their legacy in European football against formidable opposition, seeking to uphold their dominance in the continent’s premier international tournament.

France took the lead in the 8th minute when Randal Kolo Muani headed in a precise cross from Kylian Mbappe. However, Spain quickly turned the tide in their favour with a remarkable response.

Sixteen-year-old prodigy Lamine Yamal etched his name in history by equalizing in the 21st minute with a breathtaking curling shot from 25 yards out, a goal reminiscent of legends past.

Reflecting on his historic achievement, Yamal expressed, “Getting to the final is really special. I need to help my team, and that’s what I tried to do today. I was really happy after the final whistle. It’s a dream come true.”

The victory marks Spain’s sixth consecutive win in Euro 2024, underlining their dominance in the tournament thus far.

They now await the winner of the England-Netherlands semifinal for a showdown in Sunday’s final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
