Why My Brother And I Parted Ways, Again – Paul Psquare

More than two years after their highly-publicised reunion, Nigerian twin stars Peter and Paul Okoye, known as P-Square, have parted ways once again.

Paul, known as Rudeboy, revealed the split during an interview with City FM.

He shared, “No, P-Square is no longer together. I didn’t speak about it before, but now it’s becoming noticeable. My focus now is on Rudeboy.

“I’ve remained quiet until now, but a critical issue has pushed me to speak out.”

Paul elaborated, “The core issue causing these problems is how people view the situation publicly. They often say it was our older brother, he’s doing this or that.

“When we reunited, he wasn’t involved in the management or direction. He was doing his own thing.”

He continued, “There are many things people don’t know, and that’s why I advise people to be cautious about who they bring close, especially those who weren’t there for you during tough times.

“Suddenly, these individuals start giving unsolicited advice, like why someone should handle all the songs or why they should be seen in a particular way.”

Paul noted, “It’s like a seed that grows in the mind, and it started affecting our relationship. I don’t want to delve into specifics.

“Sometimes, when I speak, it may sound like bragging, but it’s the same story you’ll hear. Nothing changes.”

He also mentioned, “In the past, we were like a team of four, each with specific roles. It became an issue when it seemed I was labeled as just the singer while Peter was seen as the dancer.

“This division impacted how fans perceived us. People even asked me at airports if I was the singer or the dancer.”

Before collaborating with T.I., there was a debate among fans that Paul (Rudeboy) was the primary songwriter with the sweet voice, while Peter was the dancer.

Rudeboy admitted this contributed to their 2017 split and affected their song ‘Ejeajo’ with T.I., as fans missed his signature voice on their tracks.

He recalled, “We worked on a song with T.I. called ‘Ejeajo,’ and that’s when the issues began. Peter suggested I step back, and the song ended up featuring T.I.

“Despite being out for 15 years and still having three million views, it didn’t resonate with fans as much.

“They felt something was missing, and I wanted to avoid repeating past mistakes when we reunited.”

Paul revealed that during their 2021 reconciliation, he sought his brother’s (Mr P) advice on necessary changes.

He explained, “I told Mr P that to keep the P-Square essence, if we were making ten songs, five should come from you and five from me. I didn’t want the hassle of writing a song only to have it altered.”

He added, “The new P-Square was more harmonious, and we had everything we needed. But when Peter decided to quit, he told me directly.

“I wanted to make it public, but he refused. When I go solo, people might call me the villain. That’s why I need to speak out now.”

Paul concluded, “I have over two hundred unreleased songs and am unsure what to do with them. I’m not criticising anyone, but fans need to know the truth to avoid confusion about what’s happening.”
