The Post-Primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has unveiled the results of its recent Computer-Based Test (CBT) for teaching positions, revealing that only 9,000 of the 52,000 applicants successfully passed.
This stark result means that approximately 43,000 candidates will not advance further in the recruitment process.
The announcement, made on Tuesday by TESCOM Chairman Pastor Akinade Alamu, has set the stage for a competitive selection process for the available teaching roles.
The Commission, responsible for staffing educational institutions in Oyo State, reported that only 17% of the initial applicants met the required cut-off mark of 50%.
“The results underscore the challenging nature of the recruitment process,” Pastor Alamu said in a statement.
“We are committed to ensuring that the best candidates are selected to enhance the quality of education in our state.”
With 7,000 teaching positions available, the 9,000 successful candidates will now face a rigorous interview process scheduled to commence on August 14, 2024.
The interviews will be conducted by ten separate panels, each consisting of five members, including both current and retired permanent secretaries.
Pastor Alamu detailed the interview schedule, noting that the process will span over a week and will be organized by subject specializations.
“We have carefully designed the interview process to assess each candidate’s suitability for the available positions,” he explained.
“Candidates should be prepared to present their credentials and other necessary documents during their interview.”
The interview dates are as follows:
- August 14, 2024: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography
- August 15, 2024: English, Physics, Health Education, Technical Drawing, Music, French
- August 16, 2024: Basic Science, Home Economics, Computer Science

- August 21, 2024: Economics, Government, Finance and Account, Fine Arts, History
- August 22, 2024: Agricultural Science, Yoruba, Arabic
Candidates are required to log into their individual portals to view their results and prepare accordingly.
Pastor Alamu has emphasised the importance of presenting all relevant documentation, including educational certificates, local government of origin, and birth certificates, at the interview.
The Chairman also assured applicants that TESCOM remains dedicated to improving educational standards in Oyo State.
“Our goal is to ensure that every educational institution in Oyo State is staffed with highly qualified individuals who are passionate about teaching,” he said.
“We appreciate the patience and professionalism of all candidates throughout the CBT process and expect the same level of comportment during the interviews.”
In addition to the teaching positions, TESCOM plans to address the non-teaching categories in subsequent phases of the recruitment.
The successful candidates in the teaching category will have a significant role in shaping the future of education in the region.
The release of these results and the upcoming interviews mark a crucial step in Oyo State’s effort to bolster its educational sector, a move seen as essential in meeting the growing demands of the state’s educational system.
