Lagos Train Riders To Enjoy More Rides, Greater Discount

Starting Monday, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will see a significant boost in its daily trips.

The Lagos State Government has announced that the number of trips will increase from the current 54 to 72 per day, a move aimed at improving commuter convenience and efficiency.

Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), shared the news over the weekend.

According to her, the increase in trips will result in faster travel times. Commuters will now travel between Marina and Mile 2 in about 18 minutes, compared to the previous travel time of 25 minutes.

“This adjustment means that there will be a train available every 18 minutes in both directions,” Engr. Akinajo explained.

“This frequent service will allow passengers to better plan their journeys and reduce waiting times.”

In addition to the increase in trips, LAMATA is introducing a 25% fare discount for off-peak travel.

The discounted fare will be available to commuters traveling between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm daily.

This new initiative is expected to make train travel more affordable and encourage more passengers to use the Blue Line during these hours.

The changes come as part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to enhance public transportation in the city.

With the new schedule, LAMATA aims to make train travel a more viable option for Lagosians, helping to ease congestion on the roads and reduce overall transport costs for residents.

The Blue Rail Line, which began passenger operations on September 4, 2023, has already seen close to two million passengers.

The introduction of additional trips and the off-peak fare discount are part of the government’s strategy to further increase the line’s usage and improve overall service quality.

Commuters can find the updated train schedules on the LAMATA website, at train stations, and through the authority’s social media channels.
