Peter Okoye Fires Back at Paul: You Turned P-Square Into Laughingstock

Share

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P, has publicly responded to his twin brother Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, addressing the ongoing tension and division between the two.

The letter, shared via social media, sheds light on the brothers’ strained relationship, which has long been a topic of speculation among fans and the media.

Peter’s letter is a candid and direct response to the interviews Paul has recently granted, in which he reportedly discredited Peter’s contributions to their former music group, P-Square.

Peter expressed deep disappointment over what he perceives as Paul’s attempts to undermine his efforts and portray himself as the sole force behind P-Square’s success.

Peter began by stating that he had no interest in competing with his brother or anyone else, but he felt compelled to speak out after watching Paul repeatedly diminish his contributions to the group.

“Seeing you grant countless interviews where you constantly discredit my efforts in the group that we both created and built together really speaks volumes,” Peter wrote.

He specifically addressed Paul’s claims that he wrote and sang 99% of all P-Square songs, challenging the accuracy of these statements.

Peter noted that while Paul may have emphasized certain songs as failures, he failed to acknowledge other significant hits like “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” “Personally,” and several others, which Peter contributed to as well.

“Every time I have spoken in interviews about P-Square, I have always used ‘we’ and ‘us’ because I saw us as a team,” Peter lamented. “But whenever you speak, it’s always ‘I’ and ‘me,’ even when I’m standing right beside you. It’s as if I never existed.”

Peter’s letter revealed the pain and frustration he has endured over the years, watching his brother seemingly take all the credit for their collective achievements.

He expressed regret over not addressing Paul’s claims earlier, citing advice from family and friends to maintain peace, but he now feels the need to set the record straight.

In the letter, Peter emphasized that P-Square’s success was never about one person but rather the magic that came from their combined efforts.

He said, “My brother, neither of us is the most talented artist in the world, but you fail to understand that God gave us this talent and even granted us another chance to excel after our last breakup.

“Instead, you chose to turn the most awarded and decorated music group in Africa into a laughingstock again. One thing you need to understand clearly is that the fans didn’t fall in love with P-SQUARE because of who sang or danced the most. What made us special was the magic that came from our combined effort – us two!

“P-SQUARE was a force, and the fans fell in love with P-SQUARE because of our uniqueness and unity. We both have talent, no doubt, and I have often praised you in our interviews for your songwriting ability.

“I have also praised anyone who has ever written a song for us or even for me as Mr P. But instead of showing gratitude for my kind words, you seem to find satisfaction in rubbing it in my face, forgetting that it is by God’s grace that we have come this far.”

Peter also touched on the issue of respect, or the lack thereof, from Paul, stating that he has always praised his brother’s songwriting abilities and contributions.

However, he feels that Paul has failed to reciprocate this respect and has instead found satisfaction in belittling him.

“You have disrespected my wife, disrespected my family, disrespected my talent, disrespected my ideas, and even sided with Jude when he was clearly trying to oppress me,” Peter wrote, referring to their older brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, with whom the duo also had a public falling out.

The letter also addressed the state of their solo careers, with Peter questioning whether either of them, as Mr. P or Rudeboy, has been able to match the success they enjoyed as P-Square.

“Is Rudeboy or Mr. P bigger and more successful than P-Square today?” Peter asked, reflecting on the impact their split has had on their careers.

Peter concluded the letter by expressing his genuine wish for Paul’s success, despite the hurt and disappointment he feels.

He also urged fans to understand that the rift between them has been fueled by a false narrative, and he hopes to move forward and focus on his music in peace.

“As for those who believe these lies and false narratives and come to my page to drop negative comments, I understand because you have been fed the wrong narrative for a long time,” Peter stated. “Please allow me to focus and do my music in peace.”

Peter also hinted at addressing a matter involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), promising to provide more details later in the day.
