A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Legal Adviser Mark Jacob launched a scathing critique against Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, accusing him of cowardice and lacking integrity.
Jacob’s criticism came during an interview with ARISE NEWS on August 22, 2024. He accused Wike of being a “coward” for his continued association with the PDP while publicly criticizing the party.
Jacob argued that Wike, who has been vocal in his disapproval of the PDP’s current leadership and policies, should have left the party if he was truly disillusioned.
He said, “Wike is a coward who is not bold enough to leave the PDP and go to the APC. Having taken a stance against the PDP, a gentleman who wants to be respected should have resigned from the PDP.
“You cannot be kicking against the PDP and still claim you are with the PDP; it is complete irony, ungentlemanly, and lacking in integrity.”
Wike, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and former governor of Rivers State, has been critical of the party’s leadership, particularly under the current national administration.
His criticisms have included accusations of mismanagement and failure to effectively oppose the ruling party.
Jacob also expressed disappointment with how the party has handled internal issues and its role as the primary opposition party.
“It is a sad day for anyone who identifies with the PDP or is a member of the PDP,” Jacob lamented.
He accused the party of focusing too much on internal squabbles rather than addressing the pressing issues facing the nation.
The PDP, which was once Nigeria’s dominant party, has faced significant challenges in recent years.
The party’s inability to present a strong opposition to the ruling government has been a point of contention among its members and supporters.
Critics argue that the party’s internal divisions and lack of clear strategy have weakened its ability to challenge the ruling party effectively.
Jacob concluded his interview by calling for a reform within the PDP. He urged the party’s leadership to set aside personal and ego-driven conflicts and focus on its core responsibilities.
“PDP must regain its footing as a formidable opposition party and stop allowing individuals to overshadow the collective goals of the party,” he said.
