Ex-DSS Director Calls for Probe of Viral Video

A former director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has urged the newly appointed Director General (DG) of the DSS, Adeola Ajayi, to investigate a viral video that has recently surfaced on social media.

Ejiofor claims that the video, which shows supposed DSS personnel celebrating Ajayi’s appointment, was likely spread by individuals seeking to cause trouble.

The video, which began circulating on social media shortly after President Bola Tinubu announced new leadership appointments, depicts what appears to be jubilant DSS staff celebrating Ajayi’s new role.

The footage quickly garnered attention, sparking a wave of speculation and concern about its authenticity and intent.

Ejiofor, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, described the video as potentially misleading. He stated, “Some of those videos are old videos, as far back as 2018, not new videos.

“Mischief makers, you know, if you look at the social media and how they go about it. But granted without conceding that it’s a new thing (video) when you have new appointments or elections are over, people are bound to jubilate; some people will say our man is coming in.”

On Monday, President Tinubu made significant changes to Nigeria’s intelligence and security agencies.

Adeola Ajayi was appointed as the new Director General of the DSS, succeeding Yusuf Bichi.

Prior to this appointment, Ajayi served as the Assistant Director-General of the DSS. Additionally, Mohammed Mohammed was named the new Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), taking over from Ahmed Rufai.

Ejiofor expressed confidence in Ajayi’s ability to handle the responsibilities of his new role.

“I wish him well in his new appointment,” Ejiofor said. “He’s handled complex and difficult states. If you look at Rivers State, for instance, he (Ajayi) was able to manage the dramatis personae in the stormy political terrain of Rivers State.”

Ejiofor believes Ajayi’s experience in managing high-stress situations will be valuable at the national level. He expects Ajayi to foster unity within the DSS and work towards national reconciliation.
