Several passengers were injured in a late-night accident involving two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos on Tuesday. The collision occurred on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, within the BRT lane.

According to a report from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the crash happened when one BRT bus, traveling inward towards Iyana Ipaja, tried to avoid hitting a commercial motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was using the BRT corridor illegally, and the attempt to swerve resulted in a collision with an oncoming BRT bus.

Nosa Okunbor, head of the public affairs unit at the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), provided more details about the incident. “Investigations at the scene revealed that the accident occurred when a BRT bus swerved to avoid a commercial motorcyclist and collided with another BRT bus heading in the opposite direction,” Okunbor said.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene. The wounded passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the accident.

“Passengers from both buses suffered various degrees of injuries,” Okunbor added. “They were all taken to the nearest hospital for treatment before our response team arrived.”
