Popular Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema, made headlines this past Sunday with a significant donation to the Christ Embassy church in Benin.
The artist’s donation of ₦105 million has generated widespread attention.
The donation took place during a Sunday service at the Christ Embassy camp ground on Sapele Road, where Rema, alongside his family, attended to express their thanks.
A video of the event quickly went viral, showcasing the emotional moment as Rema spoke about the church’s support.
In his address to the congregation, Rema reflected on the church’s role in his life.
He shared, “The church embraced me, I pledge ₦40 million to the infrastructure of the church, ₦20 million to Rhapsodies of Realities, ₦25 million to the teen church.
“When I lost my dad, we felt alone, the church opened a shop for my mum. If there is any widow, I am pledging ₦20 million.
“I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, who opened a shop for my mum. That was what she managed to take care of us.”
The 24-year-old artist arrived in Benin earlier in the week for his highly anticipated homecoming concert, which was a significant event for fans and the local community.
Before the concert, Rema was honoured with a royal plaque by the Oba of Benin.
The announcement of Rema’s donation was met with widespread appreciation from the church community.
Members of the congregation and church leaders praised the artist for his generosity and acknowledged the importance of his contributions.
