The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all local council elections in Kwara State.
The elections took place on Saturday, with the APC emerging victorious in every chairmanship and councillorship position.
Muhammed Baba Okanla, the Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, announced the results during a press conference in Ilorin.
He expressed gratitude for the role of journalists in ensuring a transparent electoral process.
Okanla said, “Firstly, I’d like to express our heartfelt appreciation for your tireless efforts and commitment to factual reporting.”
He added that this professionalism helped in maintaining the credibility of the elections.
The local government elections covered all 16 local government areas and 193 wards in Kwara State.
Five political parties participated in the elections: APC, APM, PDP, SDP, and Accord.
Okanla confirmed, “After meticulous collation and verification, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all categories.”
He noted that the APC won all 16 chairmanship positions.
Additionally, the party secured all 193 councilorship seats.
The electoral process was peaceful, with no major incidents reported.
Okanla praised the political parties for their commitment to a smooth election process.
He said, “We commend political parties for their commitment to a peaceful election, which did not record any major casualty.”
He also acknowledged the citizens of Kwara State for participating in the elections.
“The people of Kwara State trooped out en masse to exercise their civic rights,” he remarked.
Security agencies played a vital role in maintaining peace during the voting process.
Okanla noted their professionalism and effectiveness.
He stated, “We also like to appreciate security agencies for ensuring peace and orderliness throughout the voting process.”
Kwara State has a history of political competition, but the APC’s recent victories suggest a shift in voter loyalty.
The opposition parties, including the PDP and SDP, struggled to gain ground in this election cycle.
