A disturbing incident involving a Nigerian soldier has come to light in Katsina.
The soldier, whose name has not been disclosed, is accused of stealing ammunition and uniforms from his colleagues.
He is attached to the 35 Battalion located in Katsina town.
A viral video, first published by Saharareporters, shows the soldier with his hands tied behind his back as he is beaten by fellow soldiers.
In the video, one soldier can be heard expressing his anger in Pidgin English.
“He steal my ammunition, that one no do am, him steal my SF (Special Force) clothe, that one no do am, him still steal my regimental jacket,” he says.
This statement indicates that the soldier allegedly stole multiple items from his comrades.
Another soldier adds, “See am, all of us dey the same unit, 35 battalion. He don lose guard, he go sell am go give bandit and he is our fellow soldier.”
He continues, “We think say na our fellow soldier, not knowing na our enemy him be,” highlighting the betrayal felt by the soldiers.
The accusations are serious, as they imply that the soldier may have sold military equipment to bandits.
Such actions could endanger not only the lives of soldiers but also the security of civilians.
The video raises concerns about discipline within the military ranks.
It also showcases a growing problem of trust and loyalty among soldiers in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria.
This incident is not an isolated case.
In recent years, the military has publicly condemned instances of personnel aiding terrorists, bandits, and other criminals.
These actions pose a serious threat to national security and undermine the military’s efforts.
The Nigerian Army has been engaged in a long battle against various insurgent groups.
This includes Boko Haram in the northeast and bandits terrorizing parts of the northwest.
