The WhatsApp number of Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has been hacked.
This alarming news was confirmed in a statement released by Boriowo Folasade, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry.
The statement, issued on Friday, revealed that the minister’s number is now in the hands of unauthorized individuals.
“This number is currently being used by individuals who do not have permission,” it stated.
Professor Mamman, the statement said, had taken swift action by reporting the incident to the appropriate authorities.
The ministry is treating this matter seriously, given the potential risks involved.
“Members of the public should be vigilant and report any suspicious activity from the hacked number,” the statement continued.
The minister’s office is exploring ways to enhance security measures for official communications.
As more people rely on messaging apps for communication, awareness becomes increasingly important.
This incident serves as a wake-up call for everyone.
“Everyone should be cautious about the information they share online,” Folasade warned.
The ministry expressed deep regret for any inconvenience this situation may cause.
They advised people to disregard any messages or requests coming from the compromised WhatsApp account.
“Please do not engage with any communication from this number until further notice,” the statement added.
The ministry emphasized the need for the public to be aware of the risks of cybercrime.
“Cybersecurity is a collective responsibility,” Folasade stated.
Authorities are working to investigate the matter and secure the minister’s communications.
