The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Augustine Eguavoen will continue as the interim head coach of the Super Eagles.

This decision comes as Nigeria prepares for the qualifying series of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Eguavoen, a former international defender, has stepped up during a crucial time for the national team.

The NFF’s decision reflects a growing trend in African football, similar to Cote d’Ivoire’s approach when they appointed Emerse Faé during the last Africa Nations Cup.

Eguavoen has already made his mark since taking charge.

In his recent matches, he led the Super Eagles to a convincing 3-0 victory against Benin Republic.

This was followed by a scoreless draw with Rwanda.

These results have given the team a solid foundation as they look forward to upcoming challenges.

“The team is getting stronger under Eguavoen’s leadership,” said a local sports analyst. “His experience as a player and coach is invaluable for the Super Eagles.”

Eguavoen will not be alone in this journey.

He will work alongside a skilled technical crew that includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa, and Tomaz Zorec.

Together, they will also oversee the Super Eagles B team as they prepare for the qualifying campaign for next year’s African Nations Championship, known as CHAN.

This collaborative effort is crucial as Nigeria aims to build a competitive squad across various levels.

The NFF’s decision to retain Eguavoen comes after a thorough review by its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

They recommended Eguavoen’s continuation based on his recent performances and his familiarity with the players.
