Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has taken a significant legal step against social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, commonly called VeryDarkMan.
Bobrisky is demanding N1 billion in damages for defamation and blackmail.
The controversy began when a viral audio recording surfaced online.
In the recording, Bobrisky claims that some officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) extorted N15 million from him.
This money, he alleges, was in exchange for dropping money laundering charges against him.
The EFCC has responded to these allegations.
Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede announced an investigation into the claims made by Bobrisky.
However, Bobrisky has strongly denied the authenticity of the audio recording.
He insists that the audio was created using artificial intelligence, aiming to harm his reputation.
In a formal letter issued by his legal team, R.T. Omuvwie & Co., Bobrisky expressed his outrage.
He accused VeryDarkMan of using his name and image to attract attention on social media.
The letter states that the viral audio and its surrounding commentary have caused him significant damage to his public image and personal life.
Bobrisky demands a retraction of the AI-generated audio and all defamatory statements made by VeryDarkMan.
Additionally, he is asking for a public apology to be published in two national newspapers.
This apology should also be shared across all of VeryDarkMan’s social media platforms.
Bobrisky’s legal team has set a strict deadline for these demands.
They require compliance within 24 hours or else they will pursue further legal action.
The statement from his legal representatives highlights several concerns.
“It has come to our attention that you have alleged our client in one of your trending videos on various social media platforms,” the letter reads.
It continues, “You claimed that various DIGs of the Nigeria Police Force, lawmakers, senators, and politicians generally were in the habit of having sexual relations with our client, yet you have not provided proof of these statements.”
The letter stresses that VeryDarkMan has continued to make reckless and unfounded claims against Bobrisky.
These statements, according to Bobrisky’s team, disregard his mental health, privacy, and fundamental rights.
Bobrisky’s legal team criticized VeryDarkMan for failing to show caution in his remarks.
They argue that his actions seem to be motivated by personal gain rather than any concern for Bobrisky’s wellbeing.
The ongoing feud has captured the attention of many Nigerians.
Social media is buzzing with opinions and reactions from followers of both individuals.
Bobrisky is a well-known figure in Nigeria, often making headlines for both his lifestyle and public persona.
He has faced numerous controversies over the years, often drawing both support and criticism.
VeryDarkMan, on the other hand, has built a reputation for sharing bold and often provocative content.
This incident marks a significant clash between two influential figures in Nigerian social media.
As the legal battle unfolds, many are watching closely to see how it will affect both Bobrisky’s and VeryDarkMan’s careers.
The outcome of this case could set a precedent for how defamation and social media claims are handled in Nigeria.
In recent years, defamation lawsuits have become more common in Nigeria, particularly involving high-profile personalities.
Bobrisky’s demand for N1 billion in damages underscores the serious nature of the allegations and the consequences they can bring.
As of now, VeryDarkMan has not publicly responded to the lawsuit or the demands laid out by Bobrisky’s legal team.
