Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has refuted swirling rumours of his alleged abscondment from office and the alleged shutdown of Government House.
In a recent statement, he urged the public to disregard what he called fake news regarding his government’s status.
The rumours suggested that Obaseki planned to leave office and travel abroad before the All Progressives Party’s candidate and victor in the governorship election of September 21, 2024, Monday Ekpobholo is sworn in.
Ekpobholo and the deputy-governor elect, Dennis Idahosa, will be sworn in on November 12, 2024.
However, the governor made it clear that these claims are untrue.
“Government is very much on course,” he stated, emphasising the continuity of his administration’s work.
Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, also addressed the matter in a report published on Saturday.
He warned individuals spreading false information to stop their actions, as they undermine the government.
“Against the false insinuations in the report, the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, was at Ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area, for the groundbreaking ceremony at the Jesuit University on Wednesday,” Osagie noted.
According to him, on Thursday, just a day later, Obaseki presided over an Executive Council meeting.
This meeting reportedly included Special Advisers and Commissioners, showing that the government is actively engaged in its responsibilities.
“The public is enjoined to disregard the falsehood and fabrications as government is committed to the good and welfare of the good people of Edo State,” Osagie added.
