Nigerian airlines are gearing up to launch direct flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as Emirates Airlines prepares to resume operations next Tuesday.

This development comes after successful negotiations led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo.

Keyamo has worked hard to secure a new agreement that allows Nigerian airlines to operate direct flights to the UAE.

According to a statement from Mr. Tunde Moshood, Keyamo’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications, this agreement is a vital step forward for Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The Minister recently led a delegation to the UAE to finalize these negotiations.

During this trip, Keyamo and his team engaged in discussions with UAE aviation authorities to ensure a smooth return for Emirates Airlines to Nigeria.

The new agreement, known as the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA), aims to enhance collaboration between both nations.

It will set clear guidelines for the aviation relationship between Nigeria and the UAE.

Moshood’s statement highlighted the importance of this agreement: “This marks a historic development for Nigeria’s aviation industry, expanding international connectivity and offering more options to travelers.”

Keyamo emphasized the significance of the reciprocal rights secured during the discussions.

He stated, “Today’s discussions reaffirm our commitment to fostering a balanced and forward-looking partnership with the UAE.”

These reciprocal rights mean that Nigerian airlines will soon be able to fly directly to the UAE, increasing travel options for passengers.

This is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Keyamo continued, “As Emirates returns to Nigeria, we look forward to a thriving and mutually beneficial air service relationship.”

The resumption of Emirates flights and the new BASA comes after weeks of diplomatic talks aimed at restoring direct air travel.
