President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced significant progress in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism during his 64th Independence Day speech.
He revealed that over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been eliminated by Nigerian forces.
This development is expected to restore peace in various communities and allow displaced citizens to return home.
In his speech, President Tinubu acknowledged the struggles faced by many Nigerians due to rising living costs and unemployment.
“We hear your voices,” he said, assuring citizens of the government’s commitment to finding solutions to their challenges.
“On the security front, I am happy to announce that our administration is winning the war on terror and banditry,” he declared.
In his speech, he stated that the government’s target is to eliminate all threats from Boko Haram and bandits.
“Over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been eliminated by our gallant troops,” he said.
These military successes have helped restore peace in hundreds of communities, allowing thousands of displaced individuals to return home.
“This is unfinished business,” he acknowledged, promising that security agencies are committed to continuing their efforts.
With peace restored, farmers can return to their fields, leading to increased food production and reduced food prices.
“We shall not falter on this,” he assured the citizens.
Tinubu also addressed recent natural disasters, particularly flooding in several parts of the country.
He assured citizens that the federal government would always stand with them in times of trouble.
“A Disaster Relief Fund has been approved to mobilize resources for emergency responses,” he added.
He revealed that the government would conduct integrity tests on all dams to prevent future disasters.
On economic reforms, the President mentioned attracting over $30 billion in foreign direct investments in the last year.
He emphasized the importance of a favorable business environment and reducing the tax burden on citizens.
“We are committed to free enterprise and regulatory effectiveness,” he said.
Tinubu promised the approval of the ExxonMobil Seplat divestment soon, aiming to increase oil production.
“This will positively impact our economy,” he noted.
His administration has also worked to stabilize the foreign exchange market, which he described as vital for economic growth.
Since taking office, they have managed to maintain foreign reserves at $37 billion despite paying back significant debts.
“Our fiscal policy reforms are aimed at stimulating productivity and job creation,” he stated.
The Federal Executive Council has approved the Economic Stabilization Bills to improve the business environment.
These measures are expected to reduce the cost of living, which is a major concern for many citizens.
“My fellow Nigerians, we are implementing many measures to reduce the cost of living,” he assured.
He praised state governors who are working with the federal government on agricultural programs.
The government has committed to supplying fertilizer and farm equipment to boost local production.
Recently, they approved the establishment of a local assembly plant for farm machinery, expected to be completed in six months.
In line with energy reforms, the President discussed expanding the use of Compressed Natural Gas for public transport.
He urged states to collaborate with the federal government on acquiring CNG buses for cheaper transportation.
“Peace is crucial for our economy to thrive,” he stressed.
The President emphasized the need for national unity to build a better future for Nigeria.
“Youth involvement is vital for our nation-building efforts,” he added.
In this regard, he announced plans for a National Youth Conference to address issues facing the youth.
“The conference will empower our young people to participate in shaping their future,” he stated.
The gathering will focus on critical areas like education, employment, and social justice.
Tinubu expressed his belief that young people should play a key role in nation-building.
“We must ensure that their aspirations are central to our policies,” he urged.
Additionally, the government is implementing various programs aimed at supporting young people in today’s fast-changing world.
The President highlighted initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to assist students in pursuing their education.
In a bid to create jobs, the government is launching the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme.
This program aims to create 2.5 million jobs annually while ensuring worker welfare.
As part of the nation’s ongoing progress, the government will soon announce the recipients of national honors for 2024.
“I believe better days are ahead of us,” Tinubu said, urging citizens to remain resilient.
The President ended his speech with a call for unity, stating, “Together, we will build a greater Nigeria.”
He encouraged citizens to believe in the nation’s potential for a brighter future.
