Philip Shaibu, the reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, made headlines on Monday as he inspected several ongoing projects across the state.

His visit comes amid ongoing tensions with Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The relationship between Shaibu and Obaseki has been rocky, leading to a public rift that has captured the attention of many in the state.

During his inspection, Shaibu toured major projects including the multi-billion naira Radisson Blu hotel and the Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA).

He also assessed the reconstruction of roads on Okada Avenue and parts of Central Road.

In a briefing to newsmen, Shaibu expressed his readiness to work with Governor Obaseki.

However, he also made it clear that he would not let their differences hinder his responsibilities.

“We should not respond to people in exile who release press releases because we are here,” Shaibu stated.

He emphasized that anyone who wants to communicate should do so in person, not from afar.

Shaibu added, “I have since resumed because the issue of reinstatement should be a thing of the past. I don’t think we should be talking about it.”

His comments reflect a desire to move forward despite the tensions.

Shaibu firmly defended his position, reminding everyone that the office of the Deputy Governor is constitutionally established.

“The office of the Deputy Governor is not an office under Obaseki. It is an office created by the Constitution,” he said.

He underscored that his role is clearly defined, and he is determined to fulfill his duties as deputy governor.

“I will be going around in the next two weeks starting with Edo South, after then Central and then North to check what we have done,” Shaibu announced.

He declared that he is doing his work and is on the ground, not in exile.

Shaibu hinted at upcoming changes within the administration.

“A new sheriff is in town and we must hand over to him,” he said, alluding to the need for accountability and smooth transitions in governance.

He emphasized the importance of putting things in proper perspective within six weeks, which could impact future developments in the state.

As he inspected the projects, he noted that there are some administrative issues that need to be resolved, particularly at the Radisson Blu hotel site.

In response to Shaibu’s actions, the Edo State Government issued a warning to him.

The Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, stated that while Shaibu is free to tour the projects, he should be cautious.

“Shaibu, just like any private citizen, can take a tour around the exceptional projects of Governor Godwin Obaseki,” Osagie explained.

However, he cautioned that both Shaibu and security agencies must not violate any laws.

“Shaibu should be patient and wait for the Appeal Court to hear his matter,” Osagie added, emphasizing the importance of respecting the legal process.

Osagie urged the people of Edo State to go about their lawful business.

He reassured them that the government is committed to protecting lives and property in accordance with the law.

The conflict between Shaibu and Obaseki has been a significant story in Edo State politics.

It reflects deeper issues of governance, loyalty, and the balance of power within the state.

Shaibu’s reinstatement followed a legal battle that saw him challenge Obaseki’s authority.

Despite the legal victory, the relationship between the two leaders remains fraught with tension.

In the past, both men were seen as allies, working together for the development of Edo State.

However, disagreements over various issues have strained their partnership.
