The Enugu State Government has firmly rejected a sit-at-home order scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

This illegal order was announced by faceless non-state actors in response to the tragic death of popular Ogene musician, Okezie Mba, known as Igbo Jah.

Governor Peter Mbah condemned the announcement, labeling those behind it as “criminals” who do not have the best interests of Ndi Igbo at heart.

He made it clear that citizens should ignore the order and continue their daily activities without fear.

“The people behind this sit-at-home are opportunists,” the governor stated in a press briefing. “They seek to exploit a tragic situation for their own gain.”

The governor emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the people and holding accountable those responsible for Igbo Jah’s death.

Mbah reassured the public that the police officer involved in the musician’s killing has been apprehended and is currently under investigation.

The statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, detailed the government’s swift actions regarding the incident.

“The killing of Okezie Mba is an abominable act,” Onyia said. “We must ensure that justice is served.”

The tragic death of Igbo Jah has shocked many in Enugu State and beyond.

He was well-loved for his music that resonated with the culture and struggles of the Igbo people.

However, the state government is concerned that criminals are attempting to turn public outrage into chaos.

“They are trying to cause mayhem and disrupt economic activities in our state,” the governor explained.

The government urged citizens to disregard the sit-at-home order, stating, “There will be no compliance with this illegal directive in Enugu State.”

Market traders, civil servants, and all residents are encouraged to go about their normal activities.
