The letter states, “The retreat aims to equip the legislators with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively navigate the complexities of policy implementation challenges.”

In addition to the retreat, the lawmakers plan to visit the Ekiti Kete Association in Canada.

This visit will allow them to connect with members of the Ekiti Kete community in the diaspora.

Agbede noted that the trip would foster cultural development and exchange experiences that promote good governance.

The letter continues, “We kindly request that you give us a date and time between 13th November, 2024 and 20th November, 2024.”

The Assembly members are enthusiastic about meeting Ekiti Kete and discussing ways to sustain Ekiti’s cultural heritage through educational and socio-cultural programs.

Despite the excitement, some lawmakers have raised questions about the funding for this trip.

One lawmaker, speaking to SaharaReporters, confirmed that it is indeed a self-sponsored trip.

“This is open to lawmakers who are ready to sponsor themselves across the 36 states,” the member explained.

He emphasized that the trip is not limited to just Ekiti State representatives.

He further mentioned that six or seven names on the list do not belong to honorable members of the Assembly.

“This is not a complete list because it’s a self-sponsored trip. Some of us are willing to attend and take advantage of this training opportunity,” he added.

The lawmaker also highlighted the intention to encourage Ekiti Kete in Canada to return home and invest in the state.

Similarly, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye Babajide Agbeyo, confirmed the self-sponsored nature of the trip in a statement sent to SaharaReporters.

He stressed that the journey is for those who can fund their travels.

“It offers our legislators invaluable insights into best practices and innovative governance strategies,” Aribasoye stated.

By investing in their development, the lawmakers aim to benefit the people of Ekiti State.

“This is not the first of such trips, and I don’t pray it will be the last,” he said.

The Speaker is committed to ensuring that members of the Assembly have access to local and international training opportunities.

He emphasized the importance of such retreats for the growth of the Assembly.

“A legislature that is not exposed could not have clinched our recent feat as the best state assembly in ICT integration,” Aribasoye noted.
