The family of Nick Imudia, a prominent figure known for his tenures at Nokia, Konga and recent role as CEO of D.light, has categorically denied reports that he died by suicide.

In a statement released on Sunday by his brother Dr Anthony Imudia, his family expressed dismay at the media’s handling of his death and emphasised that investigations were ongoing to determine the actual cause.

Nick Imudia, aged 45, was found deceased on the night of Tuesday, June 25, in his Lagos apartment.

Meteor had reported that he died by suicide, jumping from his balcony, a claim vehemently refuted by his family.

They asserted that Nick had shown no signs of stress or depression, and no such diagnoses had ever been made.

“Nick was full of life,” the family statement read. “Those who knew him closely in his final hours were shocked by the media’s rush to label his death as suicide.”

Imudia’s career spanned nearly two decades at Nokia, where he held various senior positions across West and Central Africa.

He was widely respected for his contributions to the mobile communications industry and later transitioned to lead D.light, a company specializing in solar energy solutions.

The family further criticized the media for the speed at which they reported the alleged suicide, noting that news broke less than three hours after Nick’s death while medical efforts were still ongoing at the hospital.

They questioned the journalistic integrity behind such premature assertions and called for a more respectful approach to reporting.

“In this difficult time, we ask for privacy and respect to grieve our loved one,” the statement continued. “Unfounded rumors and hasty conclusions only add to our pain.”

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has assured the family of a thorough investigation into Nick Imudia’s sudden death.

The family highlighted that neither had he made any calls instructing wealth distribution nor communicated any such intentions to his family members.

Nick Imudia’s career was marked by significant achievements, including leadership roles at TCL/Alcatel and a notable stint at Konga, Nigeria’s prominent eCommerce platform.

For now, the legacy of Nick Imudia remains a testament to his professional achievements and the impact he made in advancing technology and renewable energy solutions across the continent.
